Rock of Love

So, I like bad TV. That's not surprising to anyone who knows me. I get into anything that features a makeover or modeling. Usually, I'm not too into the dating shows, but Flavor of Love got me pretty hooked. Now VH1 is offering a new version of the dating show, Rock of Love. Rock of Love features Bret Michaels of Poison fame and his quest to find a soul mate among a bevy of scantily clad women, a decent number of whom have been culled from the "dancing" world, as evidenced by their pole skills.

So, the premise of this show is pretty typical. Bret wants to find the perfect woman, and, apparently, his perfect woman is a female version of himself--a girl who loves to ride dirtbikes, play football, and rock out to Poison but is still woman enough to want to make out with her man just as soon as he's through making out with five other women.

Um, wait a second. That last part sounds a little suspect. Which brings me to my sentimental favorite on the show--Sam. Sam is young and pretty and tall and thin, a girl who doesn't drink and seems pretty introspective, a girl who feels just a little strange making out with a guy who's just made out with five other women. The other women, especially Lacey, don't seem to understand Sam's reticence at sharing a guy with six other women. In fact, Sam gets labeled "jealous," and her behavior signals to the other ladies and Bret that Sam may even be a little crazy or on the verge of "freaking out."

I have to say, I don't think Sam is crazy. I think she may be the only sane one on the show, the only one who seems aware that what's going on around her is just wrong, that she shouldn't open up to some guy who wants a woman who will let him cheat. So, bravo to Sam for holding onto that shred of dignity.
